Worship Dances

Before Glory

I choreographed this dance, originally for the song "Baruch HaBa". That song is very simple, but has very a different melody for verse and chorus and needed a dance that was also simple but with two very different parts. In this dance the dancers portray shielding their eyes from the glory of Adonai. It is quite simple and appropriate for other slow, four-count songs about being in the presence of Adonai.

The entire dance is done facing inward and not holding hands.

Each numbered step takes four beats of music.

Part A

  1. Tcherkessia
  2. {hands high} Step inward with R foot, squat slightly on R with left foot behind you off the ground, step inward with L foot, squat slightly on L with right foot behind you off the ground
  3. Mayim L (starting with R foot crossing in front of left foot)
  4. Take two small squatting steps back R-L with hands held like they are shielding your eyes; then continue stepping back R-L while straightening up and lowering hands
         [repeat]

Part B

  1. {arms circle up in front of body and then out to the sides and down} Sidestep R and then bring L foot to right foot, then again sidestep R and then bring L foot to right foot
  2. {hands palms-up at neck height, moving slightly towards body} Turn over your right shoulder with a four step turn -- note that 4th step is with L foot and should slightly begin transferring momentum LLOD
  3. Mayim L (starting with R foot crossing in front of left foot)
  4. Mayim L (starting with R foot crossing in front of left foot)
         [repeat]
