Petals

I choreographed this dance, originally for the song "Adon HaKavod". That song is slow and slightly stately, and needed its own dance. This dance works well with other slow, four-count songs. At the beginning of the choreography, the dancers move diagonally inward like flower petals blowing in the wind. Then they circle and wobble like a flower following the sun.

The entire dance is done holding hands.

Each numbered step takes four beats of music.

  1. Facing inward, brush R foot in front of left foot, then step with R foot to face 45° towards LLOD (turn 45°). Then sway L and R.
  2. Now do the mirror image: brush L foot in front of right foot, and step with L foot to face 45° towards RLOD (turn 90°), then sway R and L.
  3. (facing inward) Tcherkessia while traveling slightly back away from center, arms raised high in front but descend only to even with hips
  4. (facing inward) Tcherkessia while traveling slightly back away from center, arms raised low in front and descending past hips far behind the body. (Dancers should now be back at their original locations.)
  5. (facing inward) Mayim L (starting with R foot crossing in front of left foot)
  6. (facing inward) Mayim L (starting with R foot crossing in front of left foot)
  7. (facing inward) Catch your weight by crossing R foot in front of left foot and then rocking back onto your L foot (also called a Coupé L). Then in two counts of music do a rushed R Yemenite.
  8. (facing inward) In two counts of music do a rushed L Yemenite. Then sway R and L.
