David and Pop-Pop's Europe Trip
Before Villach, Austria
Driving through Austria, I was gradually introduced to exactly what "Alps" means.
First, the mountains became more defined and slightly steeper (but no soo steep). This example of Pop-Pop and a dolomite is a good example.

The towns became smaller and further apart, with almost all the buildings being very old.

Diary--July 12th, 1994
I have already talked somewhat about what a nice place Austria is. I should finish up by saying a bit more. We entered the country through a beautiful area of high and steep mountains with waterfalls and trees growing from the rocks. Small villages were here and there, founded in the days of the Roman Empire and rebuilt throughout the ages.
