The highlight of yesterday was spending five hours in the Louvre. I think I saw most of the paintings, but time and weariness from standing kept us from seeing much of the sculpture as well as the Islamic art. The paintings that most impressed me I photographed and in the notepad I carry in my belt pouch I took down the painter, title, and date. Since I could study copies of individual paintings or other art works in the future, I thought it best to take in quantity, to see comparisons and evolutions and pay attention to my reactions. My favorite painting was of two children crouched over a candle, with a woman behind them in the back of the hall. The expressions on their faces, the detail of the clothing and most of all the lighting/shading truly enchanted me. I shall have to find a print or copy of it.
