David and Pop-Pop's Europe Trip
Luzern, Switzerland

One of the most relaxing (but tiring) things that happened on the whole trip was when Pop-Pop and I went for a walk along the top of Luzern's city walls. The walls, and their towers, were interesting and also provided a great view of the city.

Here is Pop-Pop resting. We have finished climbing up through the city and a small hill to where a tower is that will let us onto the wall.

From the wall we could see the "back" of the city, away from downtown on the other side of the wall.

We also had a good view of the main city.

We walked along and above the old city wall, and I climbed the two towers of eight that are open (one has a good view and the other is a clock and bell tower). We found an inexpensive watch band to replace Pop-Pop's broken one, bought a thimble, some postcards, and more chocolate, at lunchtime eventually found a moderately priced cafeteria, and bought some wine, cheese, and crackers so Pop-Pop can host a small party for an older couple on our tour that we have befriended. We walked a covered bridge whose roof-beams held a series of paintings depicting the history of the city, and a second covered bridge whose pictures told the adventures of some skeleton whose identity and story I could not piece together.
